To make a pre-bookable, non-urgent appointment please call the Surgery at 08.00am on 01422 247528 and select Appointments when prompted.
We know that 2 out of every 5 appointment requests can be dealt with over the telephone.
We operate a telephone 'triage' appointment system. This is how it works:
If you have a medically urgent (that is a problem that will not wait until the next day) problem, call us on 01422 247 528 and Select Appointments. We will take your name and telephone number and you will be guaranteed a call back from a clinician the same day. The clinician who calls you back will decide with you whether you need to be seen the same day and will book a convenient time.
You can also book routine appointments up to FOUR WEEKS in advance. You may request to see a GP or ANP of your choice, but at busy times and holiday periods it may not be possible. Every clinician who sees you has access to and can update your records and see exactly what care you have received previously.
Please note that ONLY MEDICALLY URGENT CASES can be seen ON THE SAME DAY and not always with the clinician of your choice.
We are open Monday to Friday 8:00am to 6:30pm and on Saturdays between 8:00am and 10:30am (strictly for pre-booked appointments only).
We also offer appointments via Spring Hall Medical Centre on the following days:
Later evening appointments between 6:30pm and 8:00pm Monday to Friday
Morning appointments between 10:00am and 2:00pm on weekends
Morning appointments on Bank Holidays, see this link for more details.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Do Doctors still see patients face to face?
A: Of course, pre-bookable appointments for routine visits can still be booked. However, we find that 2 out of every 5 appointments requests can be dealt with over the phone. Some patients simply want advice and this can be given quickly and easily without you having to come to the surgery in person.
Q: How is this system better than the old one?
A: If patients need to be seen, a doctor or an Advanced Practitioner assesses this during the telephone call. They have the ability to book patients in for a face to face appointment that day using their clinical judgement.
Q: I am at work during Surgery times, how can I get an appointment?
A: There are a variety of advance appointments up to 3 weeks in advance. Also, there are telephone appointments available towards the end of the day at around 5.50pm and you can also book GP appointments online after registering for the service in person. We ask this as we must confirm a patient's identity before we allow access to online services.
Q: Who calls me back when I am put on the Triage list?
A: It will be one of our GPs or an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Advanced Practitioners are highly trained and experienced clinicians. They can refer, prescribe and deal with almost all requests from patients. We receive very good feedback from patients who see them.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. If you wish, you can select option 0 on our telephone menu to leave a cancellation message 24/7. Please do not use this facility to leave any other type of message.
