NHS ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
The staff have protocols to adhere to with regards to appointments, prescription requests, visit request etc.
The partners will not tolerate patients acting in a verbally abusive or an aggressive manner towards our staff. As per NHS wide protocols, we also operate a ZERO tolerance policy towards behaviour of this type.
We aim to provide the best possible care for all our patients within the resources available. All our staff endeavour to provide patients with the help they require.
Anyone abusing our staff in any way, may be removed from our list.

HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT SERVICES
Angela Gove has been at KRS since 2009 having six years experience in this position at another GP practice. She is a qualified phlebotomist and trained in recording ECGs etc. Kizzy Matthews (one of our receptionists) is training as a healthcare assistant and is qualified in phlebotomy and currently holds blood test clinics.
The role of the healthcare assistant is to help with the workload of the practice nurses giving them free appointments for more time-consuming procedures. You can book in with Angela for blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, new patient checks. ECGs and other follow up appointments, which may be advised by a GP, eg. Cardio Vascular Risk Assessments, healthy diet advice etc.
Assisting and chaperoning GPs for certain procedures is also done by the healthcare assistant.
TRAVEL
VACCINATIONS
If you require advice on travel vaccinations, contact reception on 0844 477 3417 (option 1) or call in and ask for a vaccination assessment form which needs to be completed before we administer any vaccinations. Risks in some areas change with the seasons so our nurses have to check the areas you are travelling to/through before they can advise which vaccinations you may need, please always allow time for a course of vaccinations when going to areas of risk. Certain other travel vaccinations also have to be paid for. Please check this when making your enquiries. We no longer give Yellow Fever vaccinations but locally The Boulevard Medical Practice, Stainland Road and Kings Cross Surgeries can provide this service.
FLU VACCINES
Influenza vaccines are offered annually from late September onwards. These are recommended for the over 65 year olds and patients with asthma, diabetes, bronchitis, COPD, heart disease, and splenectomy patients. Clinic times are advertised at the surgery from late summer onwards. If you are housebound and think you need a flu vaccine, contact reception and give your address and telephone number and the district nurses will contact you when the vaccines are in stock - this service is strictly for housebound patients only. The pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine can be given at the same time as the flu vaccine if appropriate. This is now recommended for all patients over 64 years old. This is given just once unless there are specific concerns about your immunity.
TEST RESULTS
Results from various tests can be given out over the telephone after the doctors have seen the results and decided on any action to take. The number for test result enquiries is 0844 477 3417 (option 3 or 4) between 3.00 and 5.45pm each weekday.
Specimens usually take a week to be processed and returned, x-rays normally take between 10 to 14 days and cervical smear results take up to eight weeks.
OTHER SERVICES
CHILD DEVELOPMENT
AND CHILDREN'S IMMUNISATIONS
This clinic is on Monday
afternoons from 1.30 to 2.45pm for which you will receive an appointment
when appropriate. Please remember this is not for sick children, just
for routine development examinations and immunisations. If your child
has missed any immunisations or health checks or you need any child
care advice, call in to the clinic and see the health visitor or practice
nurse. It is extremely important that your child is fully immunised according to government guidelines to keep the occurrences of diphtheria, measles, mumps, pneumonia and rubella to a minimum. In recent years these have been on the increase due to the levels of immunisation dropping.
MINOR SURGERY
If your doctor feels it is
appropriate, he may suggest you have minor surgery performed in our
well equipped treatment room rather than referring you to the hospital
services.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
We currently have physiotherapist sessions locally (mainly at Beechwood Medical Centre about a mile away). This is not a private service but an addition to the general medical services we provide. If your doctor refers you to this service you are normally seen within a few weeks.
CONTRACEPTION
For contraception and family
planning advice including the morning-after pill, please make an appointment
to see your doctor.
COMMUNITY
COUNSELLING SERVICES
If patients are referred
to the counselling service, this is normally carried out in our clinics
by highly qualified community staff.
NON-NHS MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
Medical examinations for special purposes such as fitness to travel or partake in certain sports, HGV, diving, PSV and pre-employment medicals cannot be booked during normal surgery times. For details of special times and current fees involved, please contact reception on 0844 477 3417 (option 1). |
